Baltic Sea Aret Competition

A Welcoming Fortifacation

Team Member: Kristof Keerman, Francesca Bergamini, Chris Ainoo, Chimney Potbhare, Marilena Walton

Parnu has unique fortified historic centre with its defensive structures was a starting point in the conception of this proposal. A collection of new structures like fortified bastions were envisaged set into the landscape but not to defend Parnu, instead to celebrate its artistic heritage and welcome neighboring states to participate. To preserve as many of the parks existing trees as possible the two main structures are placed in the middle of the park where there is the least amount of trees. The two buildings like the original fortification appear as 2 bastions on the river edge, one an exhibition space to the east and the second a cafe to the west.
